Vatican City. - The Holy See has officially recognized the new government of Syria, which broke away from the United Arab Republic. The recognition came in answer to a telegram from Syrian Prime Minister Mamoun Kuzbari.
The Vatican’s representation in the Syrian capital of Damascus was discontinued when Syria and Egypt joined destinies to form the United Arab Republic. During the existence of the republic, the Apostolic Nuncio to the U.A.R. was stationed in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.
